Newsletter Project. Run More. Talk Less.
News printing is a large part of Media and Communications. In class each person was allowed to pick a topic that was interesting to them and make an eight page newsletter spread about the topic. In the newsletter we had to include an interview, articles, advertisements, promotions and a table of context all related to our particular topics. I chose to research and write about the topic of running. I interviewed my cross country coach, researched music playlists, studied the best foods to eat and worst foods to eat before and after runs, and made up advertisements for different running organizations. In preparation for my interview, in class Mrs. Pritchard went over with us the correct questions to ask when conducting and interview. She taught us how to take quick notes and be attentive when the person is describing an experience. We also conducted mock interviews to practice. I liked the newsletter project, however it was a ton of work and a lot of time went into making sure the newsletter looked nice and presentable. I learned a lot about organization or articles and how to place important things on a page. I never realized how much fonts, colors, and word design also go into the creation of making a newsletter, and how companies print and produce them weekly. It took me a month to finish eight pages. However I would love to contribute to a newsletter when I am older, as I found the creation of it to be very exciting. Also discovering how the newsletters are printed was cool, when we went on our class field trip. All and all the newsletter was my favorite project in Media and Communications.
