Pom Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold

The Pom Wonderful Greatest Movie Ever Sold was an interesting and eye opening movie to watch and examine. I had some knowledge of how product placement worked prior to watching the film, however I had no idea just how big it actually was.

The concept of funding an entire movie by product companies was extremely interesting and mind opening. The movie put many things into perspective with how much companies actually will pay someone to promote their product. Millions of dollars can sometimes be spent on just one ad on TV or to have a product placed in a popular movie.

This also puts into perspective just how influential ads in movies can actually be on a consumer.

There are many factors to consider when placing your ad under the umbrella of “product placement” as many companies want it to be subtle promotion. Lots of branding and strategies must be discussed and pre-planned before launching product placement and even kicking off a campaign. In the movie we also learned about how when a certain product is giving large sums of money to a company to have their product displayed, there are certain contracts and restrictions made. Such has the star in the movie was not allowed to fly any planes other than Jet Blue, drive anything other than a mini cooper, stay only in Hyatt hotels, and ONLY drink Pom Wonderful juice, the largest sponsor of the movie.

Although the movie was very out there and obvious with their products it was an interesting way of making a documentary and actually hands on giving the audience the run down on how product placement works in the world of media.
